Changing the landscape of life
for those impacted by trauma
Managing Emotional States Effectively© (MESE),is the result of a collaboration between a Psychiatrist, Counselor, and First Responder to create a protocol based on the latest developments in brain science and counseling that can be learned quickly and used confidently by mental health professionals and community helpers alike.
MESE is a synergistic adaptation of Dr. Ochberg's original Counting Method, combined with the newest science in Memory Reconsolidation, Somatic Experiencing, Neuro-Linguistic Tools, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and other Psychotherapy techniques. This revolutionary protocol allows clients to revisit distressing and traumatic memories from a safe distance, guided by a trained clinician or paraprofessional, to allow an alternate experience, where the event is significantly less triggering with an enhanced ability to move forward.
The MESE Protocol is unique in that it is:
Brief, offering positive results in the very first session
Adaptable, life changing regardless of origin of the distress
Limits exposure, requiring no discussion of event
Why do memories grab us so fiercely in one moment and in the next, make us laugh out loud?

All About MESE
Our Company
Managing Emotional States Effectively© (MESE), is a grassroots effort to create protocol that is adaptable enough to be used by trained peer supporters, coaches (sports & life), clergy and professional counselors. MESE is based in Orlando, Florida and was started by Co-Founders Kari Russo and Edward Maerkl, with the simple goal of healing invisible wounds. With the use of trained paraprofessionals as a force multiplier, these people can stand in the gap between no help and professional counselors.
Our Values
We’ve spent lots of our own time and money in trainings and understand the value of both. With that in mind, we designed our trainings to be fun, focused, and fast paced. We love working with small groups to ensure that classes are interactive and experiential.
We value the impact and contributions of First Responders, Peer Supporters, Frontline Workers, Veterans, Pastors, and Coaches in the improvement of mental and emotional health. They stand in the gap between a suffering individual and profession help. These people hold space for change - multiplying the MESE Mission of Changing the landscape of life for those impacted by trauma.
We believe in fostering an all inclusive, educational, and entertaining learning environment for all of our courses. Non-profit and group rates available.
